Inscription: 

Watermark: Three stacked circles, surmounted by a crown and cross, the top circle flanked by griffons (similar to Heawood, no. 734: England, late seventeenth century). Top circle with cross inside, bottom circle with letter "I" inside, Drawing is lined overall and pattern is seen in beta radiograph.

Philippe Huart (d. 1869), Paris (Lugt 2086 and 2084); Charles Fairfax Murray (as Cornelis Bega), London; from whom purchased in 1910 by J. Pierpont Morgan (no mark; see Lugt 1509).
