Presumably mounted by the artist and inscribed by him at lower left of mount, "Richmond Junr. 1823".

Inscription: 

Inscribed by a modern hand in pencil on verso of mount, "This must be our Grandfather T.R. / done by his Father T. R. miniature painter / but why/ the awful/ squint? / A. M. W."

Provenance: 
Acquired with a group of letters from John Ruskin to Thomas Richmond, Jr., purchased 11 September 1961 from Henry Wollaston.
