Notes:

This sheet consists of three separate studies. According to the Romney scholar Alex Kidson, it was cut from a larger sheet or a sketchbook since the graphite doodle at the upper left seems to be the trailing drapery of a female figure. The two ink sketches appear to be versions of the same subject, representing a male and a female figure on either side of a colossal head. The female figure wraps herself around the head, and the man is watching. Stylistically, this sheet dates no later than the mid-1780s, and is most likely earlier (email correspondence with Alex Kidson, 8 November 2009).
