Carta ejecutoria de hidalguia
Ms. letters patent of nobility, written in Mexico City, Mexico, 1597.
The original letter patent of nobility was issued to Antonio de Nava of Larma, Spain, in Valladolid, August 14, 1525; a copy of this document and further documents attesting to the nobility of the Nava family appear to have been copied and collected in this manuscript for the occasion of the wedding of Antonia Nava and Andrea Estrada, written and signed by the public scribe Luis de Léon, dated 24 March 1597.
Manuscript was purchased for its binding. Inside front cover pastedown is a fragment of a leaf from a printed Confisionario Mayor en Lengua Mexicana Y Castellano, by Alonso de Molina, printed in Mexico by Petro Balli, 1578.
Watermark on paper, cross in pendant with initials E M, Briquet 5688, recorded in Perpignan in 1596.
Scribe: Luis de Léon.
