Inscribed on the verso, in graphite, at center, "889"; at lower center, "34 N"; at left, "#249"; and at lower left corner, "Jan Asslyn (eigen Portret) 1610 / b:j genaamd Krabbetje".
Watermark: Basilisk (Cockatrice) threatening a church (similar to Heawood, no. 842: Holland, 1611), dragon, basilisk, threatening church, crozier.

Provenance: 
Acquired from C.G. Boerner, Düsseldorf (through whose Leipzig gallery the drawing had passed in 1937).
