The music and words have been variously attributed; a recent study claims that Harry Nathan composed the music and that Paterson based the words on an Australian folk or bush ballad.
There are only two other recorded copies of this first edition: Mitchell Library (Sydney), and a copy offered at the Christie's (Sydney) auction of 25 July 1995, lot 199.
