Debussy Premieres
Anthony Dean Griffey, Randall Scarlata, Susannah Stewart, Timothy Long, and Marie Rolf
To celebrate the English translation and revised edition of François Lesure’s critical biography Claude Debussy, Marie Rolf, Senior Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Professor of Music Theory at the Eastman School of Music, curates a program that features premieres of Debussy works. The evening presents excerpts from the composer’s early cantatas Daniel (world premiere) and Hymnis (U.S. premiere) as well as his longest and most virtuosic song, “Séguidille” (New York City premiere). Performers include Grammy Award–winning tenor Anthony Dean Griffey, who is also a Professor of Voice at the Eastman School of Music, baritone Randall Scarlata, soprano Susannah Stewart, and pianist Timothy Long—all Eastman alumni. A book signing follows the program.
