Matthew 27:33-56, Mark 15:21-41 and Luke 23:33-48.
[In comparison with other impressions of state IV,] relatively little surface tone has been employed on the left side of the plate, exposing a surprisingly spare network of lines and [clarifying the design of horses and figures, while] disturbing the sense of compositional balance. This example reveals how important surface ink is for the success of impressions of this state. (Boston 1969, no. 63. [modified])
Margins ca. 4 mm
On European paper without watermark.
