Jan Lutma (1582-1669) was a prominent Amsterdam goldsmith. His son, Jan Lutma the Younger, was an etcher and may have been responsible for the inscription in the second state. (White and Boon)
This impression is printed on a thin white vellum which has shrunk somewhat but has probably changed little in color. A stipple effect in the blank areas of the background is caused by the hair follicles of the vellum. No other impression on vellum has been recorded. (Boston 1969, no. 98)
