Inscription: 

Signed and dated lower right, "Rembrandt. f 1634" (in state II).
Watermark: Fleur-de-lis in shield, surmounted by brown, over letters "4" and "WR", (Strasbourg lily), fragment.

Luke 2:8-14.
Trunk of tree completely shaded. Shading added to the figure of the second man from the left, the ground around him, to the two distant cows on his right, and to the wings of the angel. (White and Boon)
