The men depicted in the study are identified by the artist's inscriptions: "Rockingham, Abingdon (?), Richmond, Camden, Shelbourne, Temple, Manchester, Portland, Mr ["r" superscript] Pitt, Cumberland, Secretarys of State (?), Mansfield, York, Canterbury, Chancellor, Brocklesby, Mahon."
