The interior of the is tooled with six-lined borders and contains a blank calendar with days of the week and the months; three lettered compartments labeled Lettres â répondre, Lettres répondues, Notes diverses; and blotter enclosed by purple silk cover. The inside front cover has loops for pens with covers.
Date based on the reign of Louis-Philippe after the Charter of 1830, see Morgan Library, PML 125499.

Binding: 
19th-century French purple morocco with gilt- and blind-tooling with an oblong inlay of red levant bearing the initial M and crown, by Thouvenin; the two covers are secured by a lock with clasps.
