The Morgan Library & Museum is accepting applications for the position of Museum Educator to teach a variety of school programs, including the extended learning Morgan Book Project, for students in grades K–12. School programs are based on the Morgan’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, with an emphasis on illuminated and literary manuscripts, drawings, history, and architecture. The programs are taught at the Morgan and in schools across the five boroughs of New York City.
Educators are expected to teach up to two classes per week during the school year (this may vary based upon school requests). Educators will also be expected to teach offsite programs at schools across all five boroughs. Training is required for this position and will start in Winter 2022.
- Bachelor’s degree in history, art history, or fine arts required. Master’s preferred.
- Background in the field of education and proficiency in using inquiry-based teaching techniques with children K-12.
- Careful and vigorous approach to research.
- Experience in developing lesson plans and creating interdisciplinary art experiences for a range of audiences.
- Familiarity with teaching with written material and emphasizing relationship between text and image.
- Familiarity with basic processes of artmaking; drawing, painting, collage, etc. Experience with bookmaking is a plus.
- Familiarity with New York City Department of Education social studies and visual art curricula.
- Ability to stand for a few hours at a time, as well as moderate lifting and moving of materials, as it relates to the preparation and breakdown of various school program set-ups.
- Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin/Cantonese, Arabic, or French is a plus.
$150 per on-site 90-minute school program.
