Tiziano Vecellio (ca.1488/90–1576)─known in English simply as Titian─was a remarkably versatile painter, equally comfortable with a wide range of genres and subjects. This monograph combines a scholarly yet accessible text with 200 beautiful reproductions of Titian’s works, from oil paintings and frescoes to preparatory drawings. Careful attention has been paid to the scale and quality of the images, allowing the works and their vivid colors to be shown in their true intensity. This volume includes Titian’s greatest works, from the Concert Champêtre (ca.1511) and Bacchus and Ariadne (1520–3) to the Entombment (1558–9) and Titian’s last work, the Pietà (ca.1570–6).
