Ca’d’Oro, the House of Gold, or Golden House, represents one of the most beautiful palaces of the Grand Canal - the main waterway through the ancient city. As with all of the buildings on the canal, the palace is built on a foundation of oak piles, clay and brick. This system is still used today. The model is made of plaster, lead, brass, and gold leaf, among other materials. Highly detailed, which it includes additional watercolor work, which highlights the complex tile detail of the facade. The crown caps the facade and is cast in lead. The back wall of the water gate is pierced with further tracery, allowing light to travel through the turquoise hand-made glass.
