Tell a friend

This groundbreaking publication comprises all of the extant letters from one of the greatest modern artists—Vincent van Gogh—to his younger colleague Émile Bernard. The letters, written between 1887 and 1889, are among the most revealing from van Gogh's pen and provide exceptional insight into his artistic struggles during the last few years of his life. Published in facsimile in their entirety for the first time, they are complete with new transcriptions and English translations. The authors have carefully contextualized each letter and have provided authoritative commentaries on their content. In addition to the correspondence, this highly focused study also includes more than one hundred color illustrations of paintings and drawings by both artists, as well as works by such artists as Rembrandt, Eugène Delacroix, Paul Gauguin, and Jean-François Millet.
