The Master of the Cité des Dames was one of the
most prolific illuminators in Paris during the first two decades of the
fifteenth century. He was named after the five or more copies of
Christine de Pisan’s Cité des Dames illustrated by him and his
workshop. The design on this woven silk tie is adapted from the
background pattern of a miniature in the manuscript Grandes chronique de France that the Master of the Cité des Dames illustrated around 1410–15.
