Bavaria on Screen To coincide with the exhibition Dürer to de Kooning: 100 Master Drawings from Munich, the Morgan is screening two feature films set in Bavaria that explore some of its traditions and history.
Ludwig (1972, 184 minutes)
Director: Luchino Visconti
Helmut Berger stars as the tragic and wistful King Ludwig II of Bavaria in this stunning drama, which begins with his crowning at the age of nineteen, and ends with his death in 1886. Ludwig's propensity to dream, paired with his love of the arts and unclear sexuality, eventually leads to his downfall. With striking cinematography and music by Richard Wagner, this film also features Romy Schneider as Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Trevor Howard as Wagner. Friday, November 02, 2012, 7 p.m.
Exhibition-related films are free with museum admission. Tickets are available at the Admission Desk on the day of the screening. Advance reservations for Morgan Members only: 212.685.0008, ext. 560, or tickets@themorgan.org.
Please call (212) 685-0008 ext. 560 or e-mail for information.
