Director of Individual Giving

Job Responsibilities

The Morgan invites applications for the position of Director of Individual Giving. The position is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewardship of members of the Morganís Association of Fellows ($2,000–$12,500 membership levels). The Director of Individual Giving will solidify, expand, and diversify individual philanthropic support by maintaining an active portfolio of prospects, and developing strategies for solicitation to increase or upgrade to higher levels within the Association of Fellows. The position will manage the Morganís Annual Fund program. The Director of Individual Giving will be an active ambassador for the Morgan. Administrative support is provided by a Development Associate. This position reports to the Director of Institutional Advancement.


  • Bachelor's degree required; graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of increasing responsibility within Development, preferably at both a major arts/cultural institution and a higher education institution, with at least 2 years experience soliciting and securing new gifts in excess of $10,000
  • Experience working with a sophisticated donor base; familiarity with the New York philanthropic community preferred. A keen passion for museum and library work
  • Ability to develop relationships with donors to understand their needs and interests
  • Strong interpersonal skills, good team building skills, and the ability to work successfully with a variety of personalities
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously and to establish effective timelines for accomplishing long-range goals while completing all tasks on a timely basis
  • In-depth knowledge of all modules of Raiser's Edge and demonstrated skill with Microsoft Office applications
  • Evidence of exceptional oral and written communication
  • Willingness and ability to spend evenings and weekends at membership/development events as required
  • Able to stand for long periods at events and programs
  • Able to work for extended periods on the computer
  • Ability to lift and move up to 30 lbs
  • of material as needed

Compensation: Commensurate with experience. Excellent benefit plan.
