Akira Chin-Prophete and Cavani Diggs, 6th Grade

Our Groove

My name is Akira Chin-Prophete. My favorite color is turquoise. The reason I like turquoise is because it is a calming and soothing color. I have been drawing since I was in the third grade. My inspiration for drawing at the time came from my friend, Jameica Nicole Wright. I have also studied the art of dance. The classes I have taken have been ballet, tap, African and hip-hop. Currently, I take the artistic advance dance classes of ballet, hip-hop, jazz, African and liturgical. I received my very first award when I was in a singing competition. I won second place and beat two professionals. I am now in the sixth grade at P.S./I.S.270Q and I am presently taking visual art classes with my art teacher, Ms. Owens. In her class, we are learning about various types and styles of art. What I like about art are the ways the paints mix. When I see paints mix, I see worlds combining to make a wonderful and extravagant place. My favorite type of art is drawing and sculpture.

My name is Cavani Elayna Diggs. I'm twelve years old. I have been drawing all my life since pre-kindergarten. That would be for six years. I stopped for a while to play soccer, but drew during my spare time. I ceased playing soccer after winning one trophy for my team's season to draw professionally. In third grade I began taking art lessons at David Gayle's Atelier art studio. I am now in sixth grade and interested in fashion and the arts. So far, I have been in two art shows at York College. When I heard we were creating a book I knew my best friend at P.S./I.S. 270Q, Akira, was the best person to create a book with. I decided to draw, (this was when I was three), because I was in the hospital due to Asthma. When I was lying in bed, I found out there was a play room. I walked there with my mom and saw paint. I started to draw a picture with grass, a sun, a sky, with my mom. All the pain eased away as I drew. Art is my way of avoiding all the bullying and teasing, and escaping to my happy place where I feel safe. Now I am in the sixth grade and in Ms. Owens' art class. We create art with various mediums. My favorite color is hot pink. I think hot pink is crazy, creative, and fun. When people see my art I want them to feel as if they were there in the picture.
