Flanked by allegories of Tuscan cities, the central scene illustrates The Oration of Antonio Giacomini. A commissary of the Florentine troops, the patrician Giacomini (1453?–1517?) is shown at the podium in the Sala de' Dugento of Palazzo Vecchio exhorting the government to declare war on Pisa. Vasari's workshop subsequently depicted battle scenes on either side of The Oration of Antonio Giacomini and transposed the allegories to another part of the ceiling.
