Contemporary Augsburg binding dated 1591, perhaps by Daniel Wachtler, for Count Philipp Eduard Fugger (1546-1618) in light brown polished calf over bevelled wooden boards, richly gilt and paneled; broad gilt arabesque border flanked by double gilt fillets, broad intermediate panel with the Holy Monogram in a circle on each side and large azured tools in the corners; on the front cover is a large oval stamp containing Christ on the Cross, a heart pierced by three arrows and the Holy Monogram within an aureole and an ornamental border dated 1591 below; on the rear cover is a large Fugger arms in an oval wreath. Gilt edge, fore-edge gauffered and painted with the Crucifixion; with eight shaped brass corner pieces with bosses and brass catches.
